Braeside Park Trail – Braeside

On this walk we explore the wetlands trail inside Braeside Park, a very popular and spacious oasis in the middle of industrial Braeside.

The well-formed walking trail takes us through the open woodlands of the park with plenty of opportunities to see the numerous waterbirds on the tranquil lakes and ponds. There’s even a bird hide for those who would like a closer look.

There’s an extensive picnic area near the carpark, so if the weather is good, we’ll finish our walk with a picnic in one of the undercover seating areas.

Start: Federation Picnic Area Rd, Braeside, off Lower Dandenong Rd, Braeside.
Parking: Park in Goshawk carpark, the 3rd carpark along the one-way road in from Lower Dandenong Rd.

For those needing a lift, meet at the usual pic-up point at corner Glenferrie Rd and Riversdale Rd, Hawthorn. Call Graham on 0412 589 185 if you require a lift.

The Walk: The walk is a 5 km loop around the park and follows the Wetlands Trail. It is completely flat, with no hills or obstacles.

Total distance: 5.0 km.
Time: Allow 2.0 hours for the walk, plus an hour for the picnic at the end. Total 3 hours.

Difficulty: Easy
Toilets: At the Management Centre at the start, plus halfway at the Parks Vic building.

Picnic: Pack your picnic hamper and we’ll relax with an early lunch on the lawns after our walk.

Coffee: If the weather is not suitable for a picnic, we will conclude our walk with coffee at Mona’s Bakehouse in Dingley Village, a few minutes away.
