RA50 Walk
Maribyrnong River Trail
At RA50, we try and bring you a variety of new and interesting places to go. Places to explore, enjoy and exercise in the company of your fellow, like-minded walkers.
This week is no exception as we head over to Melbourne’s second largest river, the Maribyrnong. Here we’ll discover a popular, wide-open, new walking trail alongside the picturesque banks of this old Melbourne trading port.
At the halfway point, we’ll stop for coffee at one of Melbourne’s oldest pubs, the Angler’s Tavern, now a spacious and welcoming meeting spot on a Sunday morning.
Start: Footscray Park, Myers Rd, Footscray.
Start time: 10.00 AM at the Start. Gives us time to drive to the Start and be at the coffee place by 11.00.
Parking: Park in The Edgewater carpark, on Myers Rd. Parking is free.
The Walk: The walk is the well-formed walking trail along the riverbank. We’ll walk as far as the Angler’s Tavern, stop for coffee and return by the same trail.
Total distance: 5.6 km.
Time: Allow 2.0 hours for the walk, plus half hour for coffee. Total 2.5 hours.
Difficulty: Easy
Toilets: At the 20-minute mark from the start, plus halfway at the Angler’s Tavern.
Coffee: At Angler’s Tavern in the rear open dining area. Opens at 11.00 AM Sunday morning.
Need a lift? For those needing a lift, meet at the usual pic-up point at corner Glenferrie Rd and Riversdale Rd, Hawthorn. Call Graham on[masked] to book your spot.
