RA50 HIKE – Goldfields Trail – Bendigo
October 17, 2021A$49.00
Bendigo Goldfields Circuit Trail
The Hike: Bendigo Goldfields Bushland Circuit
This hike lets us to sample the rich history of the Great Australian Goldrush of the 1850’s. Starting from the centre of the City of Bendigo, we follow a well-formed trail past quiet historic houses before quickly stepping into the bushland reserve of the Bendigo Regional Park. Here we pass numerous old mine shafts with their mullock heaps from the gold diggings. As we head off, we enter the open woodlands dominated by starkly beautiful yellow box eucalypts with their dark deeply fissured trunks and surrounded by the silent stillness of the forest. Carpeted by abundant wildflowers, the trail loops past the Spring Gully Reservoir before heading back via a green corridor towards our starting point, the historic Bendigo Railway Station, opened in 1862 as Sandhurst before its name change later in the century.
