What is Functional Fitness?
Sports people and athletes define fitness in terms of how to measure and reach the maximum possible state of physical condition necessary to achieve the goal of winning against the other team or their opponent.
But most of us are not sports stars or athletes. For many of us, our need for fitness could almost be described in terms of a negative. That is, avoidance of not being able to do the things we need and want to do. Everyday things like lifting kids, groceries or boxes, climbing stairs or briskly walking without puffing. And so, for most people Functional Fitness is achieving a level of physical fitness that allows them to carry out daily life activities easily and without any negative side effects. But Functional Fitness also has massive and positive up-sides that are in fact way more important than just avoidance of negative states and conditions.
Over 50’s Functional Fitness Programs
The Functional Fitness programs that we use in our Over 50’s classes focus on training for strength to be able to do everyday tasks such as lifting reaching, bending walking and stepping. All our clients are trained in all planes of motion (sagittal, frontal and transverse).
This combined with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, healthy eating and regular exercise can and will deliver for you the fittest version of you that is possible for the rest of your life. You just need to get started!
Remember, like so many things in our lives, life is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. And a marathon starts with the first step. Similarly, life is a journey not a destination and renewal at any age starts with the first step. Hopefully, this and our other regular blogs, will provide you with the motivation to take that first step. If you haven’t already found the benefits of eating and exercising for a better and more enriching life, you will be personally rewarded if you will take that first step now.
